Games, Second Discussion / Curation (Week 8)

Our discussion this week will have two components: reflecting critically on GAMES and beginning our plans for the CURATION exercise.

From Literary Gaming by Astrid Ensslin [see Dropbox]

Special Directions: The third chapter (which starts about midway through the scanned document) is required. If you have no background in reflecting theoretically or critically on gaming, I’d urge you to read the entire document (that is both chapters 2 and 3).

The Anatomy of Gaming:

Special Directions: Thanks to Bret for recommending this exemplary anatomical review of how a familiar video game instructs its player.

**Please also play the games I assigned last week one more time, reflecting on them in light of the experiences you had with gaming this week during classtime

Dene Grigar, “Why Curating”

Nota Bene: This piece has a number of parts. You’ll know you’ve reached the end when the Lori Emerson piece begins.

And the curatorial statement here:

You can review Grigar’s other efforts by going here: [Clike on “Portfolio” and then “Curation”]

Special Directions: You’ll be collaborating on a curatorial statement, so please read these with an eye toward generating one.
